Google Penguin Update.

Internet search engine giant Google have recently released a new web update that they have dubbed Google Penguin. The update is designed to decrease the rankings of sites that are violating Google guidelines by loading pages with irrelevant keywords in an attempt to manipulate a site’s ranking in Google search results.

The top 10 keywords in many niches are rapidly changing since the update as website owners are scrambling to protect their Google rankings or are recovering from the changes that have hit their sites.

Google recommend avoiding using hidden text or hidden links. Google defines hidden links as those that are only intended to be crawled by a Googlebot, but are invisible to users, because they consist of hidden text. In practice Google recommend not using white text on a white background or using text behind images. With the Google Penguin algorithm, Google will deem your site to be untrustworthy, and will not rank your site well or de-index it completely.

Google also recommend that users should not create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicated content in an attempt to manipulate search traffic or rankings .

Earlier this year Google released Google Panda, an algorithm that aims to give people the most relevant answers to their web search queries. If you are concerned about your Google ranking then feel free to call our offices in Stoke, call us on 01782 450 111 or e-mail enquiries@mediaheads.co.uk.
